ENDOWMENT & SCHOLARSHIPS

Endowment Fund
All gifts to the Endowment Fund directly impact need-based tuition assistance. Funds are invested and a portion of the interest accrued from the fund goes directly toward tuition assistance.  The funds are managed and reviewed by the dedicated membership of our Powers Catholic Leadership and Educational Trust Fund Board.

Scholarships
An award of financial aid can make a lasting impact for a student by providing them the opportunity to experience a Catholic education when they otherwise may not have been able. We strive to reach out to every demographic in Genesee County and scholarships are another area in which we’re able to strengthen that outreach to promote academic and spiritual leadership within our community.

Current Powers Catholic High School Scholarships

Jack and Sally Goggins Guardian Angel Fund
This fund provides Powers Catholic students much needed financial support during time of unexpected financial difficulty due to a death in the family, a job loss of a parent, sudden illness or other catastrophic events that can impact a family.

With your generous support, we will be able to quietly help our families during their time of greatest need.  Naming of this fund was inspired by the significant contributions that Jack and Sally Goggins have made to Catholic education over the past 50 years.

The Elizabeth Hallman Courage Scholarship Award
The Elizabeth Hallman Courage Scholarship Award was established to honor the memory of Liz Hallman who passed away just prior to her senior year at Powers Catholic High School. It was funded by the Liz Hallman Athletic Courage Award which was created through generous contributions of Liz’s family, classmates, their parents, faculty and friends in 1996. This scholarship award supports a student who is in financial need in their junior and/or senior years at Powers Catholic.

The name of this scholarship includes “courage” for a reason. Liz displayed tremendous emotional courage in remaining a leader and captain of the basketball team although she could not physically participate. She showed great physical courage in undergoing ACL reconstructive knee surgery in December and fought through rehabilitation in order to return to playing soccer the following May. This sequence of events captures the essence of Liz’s character and the depth of her courage.

Liz was not only an athlete, but a person who loved being a student at Powers Catholic High School. She had great classmates and friends, as well as a supportive coaches, staff and faculty at Powers. The sense of family at Powers helped nurture Liz from a shy freshman into an outstanding, vibrant young woman about to enter her senior year at Powers Catholic.

This scholarship awards a Powers student through their junior and senior years who exhibits Elizabeth’s same courage, tenacity and love for life. We know that Liz would be thrilled to know that a student would be assisted in obtaining a Catholic education at Powers Catholic High School through this gift.

The John J. McIlduff Scholarship Award
The John J. McIlduff Scholarship was established in his memory by his parents, John and Pat McIlduff. It is hoped that this scholarship will enable other students to receive the caring and quality education offered at Powers Catholic High School.

John attended Holy Family School. In spite of being diagnosed with cancer in his freshman year, he maintained his grades and became a member of the National Honor Society. He was proud to be a member of the Powers State Championship Soccer team in 1996.  John graduated from Powers in 1997 and attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor until 2000. This annual memorial will help serve as a lasting reminder of John’s passion for life, along with the pride and dignity he displayed during his years as a student and athlete.

The Theodora G. Morgan Scholarship Fund
The Theodora G. Morgan scholarship is designed to support several students at Powers Catholic for many years to come. For over two decades Theo served Catholic schools in the greater Flint area. As a teacher and later as an administrator, she touched the lives of thousands of children. Her focus as an educator provided the direction necessary to reinforce the values parents have come to expect in a Catholic education.   As the mother of two Powers graduates, Theo is proud of the education extended to all interested in faith based principles. She is secure in her knowledge that a Powers graduate is well prepared for the academic and moral challenges facing all young adults.

The Donald H. Tackebury Community Service Scholarship Award
To honor her late husband, Don, Mrs. Margaret Tackebury has bestowed a financial gift to Powers Catholic High School for students who exemplify the mission of Jesus Christ to give of oneself to others. As members of All Saints Parish, the Tackeburys believed that through Catholic education they could help aid the formation of young adults into good stewards of their community. Don & Margaret believed deeply in the mission of the Catholic Church and education. The scholarships are awarded to students and their families who exemplify Don Tackebury’s spirit of volunteerism and community service.

The Alexa Woodfield Scholarship
Alexa Rose Woodfield was a student at St. Pius X from Preschool-8th grade. She attended Powers Catholic High School where she was always willing to lend a helping hand.

"She was confident enough to introduce herself to students and acknowledged others by their name and made them feel important. She was known to help freshmen find their way around Powers when they needed direction. She had a gift of loving and that is exactly what she did. She loved her family more than anything; her mother, father and sister Candice. Today her memory lives on in our hearts and minds and the opportunity for her love of helping others is continuing."
-          Trish Morrison, Powers Catholic High School Teacher

A $750 scholarship is available beginning this year for an 8th grader of St. Pius X Catholic School going to Powers Catholic High School. The student chosen is one who strives to do his/her best academically and displays a strong moral character.
